After saving the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser and the rest of the Koopas in Super Mario 3, Mario and Luigi needed to recuperate from their adventures. Together they agreed that the best place to vacation was a magical place called Dinosaur Land. But while Mario and Luigi reclined on the beach for a relaxing nap, Princess Toadstool disappeared, apparently seized by evil forces. After searching for hours for their missing friend, Mario and Luigi came upon an enormous egg in the forest. Suddenly the egg hatched, and out popped a young dinosaur named YOSHI, who proceeded to tell Mario and Luigi a sad tale of how his dinosaur pals who were sealed in similar eggs by a group of monsterous turtles. "Monsterous turtles!," exclaimed Luigi. "Bowser and his bunch have returned!" Mario slowly nodded his head in agreement and, along with Luigi and Yoshi, set off across Dinosaur Land to find the Princess and to free Yoshi's friends. As they began their journey, Yoshi handed Mario a beautiful cape. "This may help you," Yoshi said. "Some say it has magical powers." With a little luck (and help from a magic cape), our hearty crew can defeat the seven worlds of Bowser's Krazy Koopa Kritters. Many locations are well-hidden so explore everywhere and try everything. Not all locations have to be explored to rescue the dinosaurs and save Princess Toadstool, but there are many "starry" treasures to be found in far-reaching places. You'll need to search all areas to find out what kinds of treasure are there... in Super Mario World.
Super Mario World was the launch title for the Nintendo Super Famicom in 1990, and the Nintendo Super NES in 1991. This marks the debut of Yoshi, Mario and Luigi's dinosaur friend.

Super Mario World introduced many now common concepts to action gaming, such as giving the player the ability to revisit levels to find overlooked secrets. It was one of the first games to reward the player for 'getting one-hundred percent' (finding all the secret exits in the levels, many of which lead to secret levels), an idea that has since become very popular. Super Mario World is still considered by many to be one of the greatest games ever because of it's simple, yet creative and addictive gameplay.

All stages with a red marker have more than one way to exit the stage. Fortress, Castle and Switch Palace stages only need to be completed once.

The game changes when you complete the Special Zone stages, which are unlocked after finishing the 5 Star World stages. You must complete the Star World stages using the hidden exit to advance to the next stage. Completing the stage the normal way will go back to the Star Road.

With the Special Zone completed the map screen changes colour, Koopa Troopa changes into Mask Koopa, Jumping Pirahna Plant changes into Jumping Pumpkin Plant and Bullet Bill changes into Pidgit Bill.

Top Secret Area : To access this bonus stage you must be Cape Mario. Enter the Donut Ghost House and fly straight up to the left and run along the ceiling. At the end of the stage are four boxes, each with a 1-Up Mushroom. Unlike Super Mario 3, you can hit all the boxes at once and the lives won't disappear.

Complete Star World 4 (key) to unlock a shortcut to Bowser's Castle through the Star Road.

Easy Extra Life

Beat a stage with your time ending in the same digit repeated twice as the tens place of your Star total, and you'll be awarded an extra life.

With 17 stars, beat the stage with your time ending in 11.

Hear SMB remix

If you sit at one of the levels in Special World for about 2 minutes, you'll start to hear a Super Mario Brothers remix!

Item Conversion at the Goal

Try holding an item (shell, trampoline, etc) and cross the Goal line. The item you're carrying will turn into a 1-Up mushroom.

Re-enter Castles you have already beaten

When you beat a castle you normally cannot enter it again.
Go to the castle you want to play again and Press L+R at the same time.
